GRASS GIS , commonly referred to as GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System), is a free and open source Geographic Information System (GIS) software suite used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics and maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization. GRASS GIS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies. It is a founding member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo).
Grasslands such as savannah and prairie where grasses are dominant are estimated to constitute 40.5% of the land area of the Earth , excluding Greenland and Antarctica .  Grasses are also an important part of the vegetation in many other habitats, including wetlands , forests and tundra . The Poaceae are the most economically important plant family, providing staple foods from domesticated cereal crops such as maize (corn), wheat , rice , barley , and millet as well as forage, building materials ( bamboo , thatch , straw ) and fuel ( ethanol ).
The grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idella ) is the species of fish with the largest reported production in aquaculture globally, over five million tonnes per year.  It is a large herbivorous freshwater fish species of the family Cyprinidae native to eastern Asia, with a native range from northern Vietnam to the Amur River on the Siberia -China border.  This Asian carp is the only species of the genus Ctenopharyngodon .
